9800gx2 quad sli x3 PSU compatible

I recently upgraded to a 9800gx2 and I was wondering if those 3 amps determine to obliterate my system if I go for 2x gx2's, or if I be supposed to break down and purchase an additional PSU. I have not added 9800GX2 to the register of GPUs yet, so I selected 8800Ultra, and CPU with 100%TDP, and it came up at 596W. The GX2 max power draw is regarding 15-20W higher than that of the 8800 Ultra, so almost certainly 636W.

The merely graphics setup that you tested that was earlier than the GeForce 9800 GX2 were a pair of GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB cards working with in SLI. The GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB works at to some extent higher speeds than the 9800 GX2 – 670MHz core/1625MHz torrent processors versus the 9800 GX2’s 600MHz core/1500MHz shaders – which accounts for the GTS’ greater showing in our benchmarks.

The respond to that query varies; if you do not presently own an SLI motherboard, working a pair of GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB cards in SLI mode is not an alternative for you. For the uber high-end gamer that craves the supreme highest presentation and determine to pay anything to get hold of it, the GeForce 9800 GX2 maintains single unique characteristic that puts it in a class of its own: Quad SLI.

The speculation behind Quad SLI is the similar as predictable 2-Way SLI. By combining two GeForce 9800 GX2 cards jointly, presentation improves spectacularly. The presentation would not magically twice (due to a host of factors such as driver overhead, game engine restrictions/optimization and the speed of your CPU), but presentation developments of 50% or additional are probable under a number of conditions.

The authentic presentation boosts you determine to observe from Quad SLI determine to vary based on the game being tested and the settings used. Perceptibly the harder you push the graphics card, the superior the advantage you are supposed to observe from working Quad SLI versus a single GeForce 9800 GX2. This means gaming at declaration of 1920x1200 or higher (with Crysis being the obvious exclusion), with the AA/AF and game settings cranked the entire the way up.

If you recall NVIDIA’s preceding Quad SLI card, the GeForce 7950 GX2, you determine to no doubt keep in mind the problems of NVIDIA encountered getting the entire four GPUs in Quad to scale correctly. For the reason that of restrictions in DX9 Windows XP, 7950 GX2 Quad SLI cards might not work 4-Way AFR in D3D titles, as an alternative they had to rely on AFR of SFR or 2-Way SLI modes. Providentially this problem has been determined in Windows Vista, permitting you to finally render up to four frames concurrently with the 9800 GX2 cards working Quad.
