power consumption

I am going for 9400gt, 1gb. It consumes 350watts of power. This means even if am not using any feature of graphics card, which happens mostly as my bro spends hours online, it will result in drastic waste of power.

Is there any alternative which can prevent this loss?

There will be no wastage of power. The power rating of any device is mentioned when it is used at Max Load. So if you are not running any graphics based applications all the time, it will not consume all the 350 watts. I hope this is helpful...
