ATI Radeon X800 Vid card vs. ATI Radeon HD4200 IGP

I have the desktop computer and the motherboard socket 939 system is dead, so now i am want to do a cheap upgrade, and make that desktop PC a basic media PC. I already have a ATI Radeon X800 512mb vid card that seemed to be fine for connecting to a 1080p 50" TV. Now that I am planning for Socket AM3 processors and motherboards, i have noticed that some of the boards have ATI HD4200 Intergrated Graphics. So how does that compare to my old ATI Radeon X800 card. Is it worth it for me to get a board with intergrated graphics, or is my old ATI Radeon X800 card still good enough for a Media PC?

Recently i have loaded the new Dirt 2 demo on a ATI Radeon HD 4200 based laptop over the weekend. And with the resolution set to 1200x600 and lower overall settings the game played very OK or even can say nicely, but not a great one, but it acceptable for casual gaming. But HD 4200 has smoother HD movie playback and also has flash acceleration with Adobe Flash Player 10.1 as well as other potential GPU tasks.

My knowledge about says HD 4200 is better to keep then X800. It is beacasue of following points:
X800 : - RV430
Vertex shaders = 6
Pixel shaders = 16
ROPs= 16
TMU's= 16

And

HD4200: - RV620
Vertex shaders = 40
Pixel shaders = 40
ROPs= 4
TMU's= 4
This why i said HD4200 will be fairly more better on the basis of the changes that have been made since the x800. Ans also HD 4200 has 55nm plus, and will use much less electricity than your card(ATI X800).

According to ATI cards knowledge, i would say that stream processors of the later Radeon's cannot be compared to that of the earlier pixel pipelines and vertex shaders. To be honest, i will be highly surprised if an IGP exist that was as fast as a ATI Radeon X800. But i can also tell that the ATI X800 is mostly close to twice as fast as the ATI HD 4350.(Huge fill rate and memory bandwidth differences). I would suggest you to keep ATI Radeon X800 instead of HD 4200. Hope you can fix out your problem.

The recent news from ATI is that, its planning a Radeon HD 4200 series IGP. And It has also claim that HD 4200 will be 16% faster than other comparable in the market. The HD 4200's configuration is not known that much ,than it will support DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL equivalents. So, i would prefer you to use ATI Radeon HD 4200. It give best performance and you can game with higher resolution also.

I have used both the ATI Radeon X800 and HD 4200, and my experience says X800 will be massively faster, in the order of at least 3X as fast, and also maybe probably closer to 4X(Depending on which model X800, Pro, XT, etc). But if want to do gaming, then i would suggest you HD 4200 IGP, because it gives you excellent gaming performance.
