Problems with Radeon HD3850 AGP and OpenGl games

    Hi,

I recently got a Sapphire ATI radeon HD 3850 AGP and it runs many games really well. but i have an issue running OpenGl games like Counter-strike (video mode not supported),Quake 3 engine based games and even Doom 3 (Unable to find opengl driver). I'm running Windows Professional x64 SP2 with Catalyst 8.12 AGP hotfix.

    any idea ?

Try to Update the PCI standart PCI-to-PCI bridge to something like "CPU to AGP". To do that you have to click on PCI standart PCI-to-PCI bridge and then click on update drivers, Choose "Install from a list or specific location.(Advanced)" Click Next. choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install", click Next. Select CPU to AGP controller" and install it after this is done Click Finish and Reboot computer.

This problem seems to be more widespread than just the agp cards. ATI doesn't support them, the official drivers don't work at all on them, and Omega hasn't updated his drivers since this card came out, I think it is really effecting all ati cards. i'm sure that just about all opengl problems with ati cards will be fixed if they will just enable texture memory. you better buy a nvidia card.

You have to use an old opengl version (from catalyst 7.11) and placed on the game folder. download catalyst 7.11, and in the inf files the HD38xx series are there and it seems to be supported, used the official drivers with the AGP hotfix. As long as my CPU can provide enough speed to run the games at over 30fps (mostly older games), your 3850 AGP will allow you to crank to well above your previously playable settings.
