Task Usage View to MS Excel...?

Is there any scenario where one could effectively 'export' the Task Usage View to MS Excel?

I have tried to print to PDF and then 'Copy As Table' and several variations of that approach.

The idea is to have the schedule sorted by a custom filter and display the schedule in order of ID with Task, Resources and Assignment Units. The report looks great but to be able to manipulate and crunch would be better.

    Thanks in advance.

What version of Project? Project 2003 had the "Analyze timescaled data in Excel" command, Project 2007 and 2010 the closest without code is to use the Visual Reports.

You can try an export of a task view and select "Assignment rows" in the export map but it won't have the timescaled (right side).

    I hope this helps.

Julie, thank you very much for your reply.

I am using MS Project 2010.

Unbelievably, I can copy/paste the data I need. I was trying to use the Visual Reports at first and was being lazy I suppose.

    Thank you for your effort.

    Cheers.

In Project 2000 and 2003, the option was to use the "Analyze timescale data in Excel" utility found on the Analysis toolbar. And in Project 2007, the option was to use the Visual Reports feature found under the Reports menu. I haven't tried any version of Project 2010, it may have even more flexibility. However, with any version of Project, you can always use VBA to export whatever data you need. This is the most flexible and automated approach but it does require knowledge of Project VBA.

You're most welcome darkdimension. I was going to suggest the copy/paste method when all else fails :-)

As Spyrus notes, you can certainly export timescaled data through VBA code. Rod Gill (Project MVP) has written a book in VBA and Project. Sample chapters are available from Microsoft's MSDN site:
