C00D11B1 when trying to play any mpg or mpeg file WMP11

This is Windows XP SP2 with Windows Media Player v11.0.5705.5043. Earlier I was able to play any video file with this media player no matter if it is in mpg, mpeg, WMV or AVI files. But since last few days whenever I’m trying to play any video file with extension mpg or mpeg, I get an error message saying:

“Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.”

And when I check Web Help, it shows me some error code “C00D11B1.” I thought updating WMP could fix this problem, hence I updated it but yet getting the same error message with any mpg or mpeg file. And when I play avi or wmv files it wont show the video but audio works fine. I even tried installing Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 and 6.4, but that too dint helped so far.

Now I don’t know what else I could try. Can anyone of you guys help me out please?

The very first thing I would like to know is the problem occurring with all mpg and mpeg files or the problem is just with one particular video? From where did you got this video, I mean, downloaded from web or copied from any CD? Also did you tried playing the same in any other media player such as Real Player, Quicktime or VLC? Is it able to run fine there?

Help appreciated buddy. Yes, the problem is with all 5 videos in meg and mpeg format. And yeah, I tried running them in real player as well but that also not working.

What could be the problem?

I have the same problem! The files are okay, i could first play them with WM,
and now suddendly not anymore.
Only on mpeg-files.

I had this problem about six months ago and in my case I found that Samsung PC Studio 3 was conflicting with WMP. It is the one that actually messing up the mpeg filter. Even though I removed it from the system mpeg filter yet remained broken. So somebody suggested me to install Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). Once I installed the same, it reset all settings and problem solved. Thereafter I was able to play all those mpeg or mpg files without any problem. So, hope you got the solution.

Hello Jason, thank you very much for the help friend. You were right, I think Samsung PC studio is the culprit for sure because even I started getting my problem just since I installed this software. Anyway, as you suggested I downloaded and installed CCCP and problem fixed. But there is one thing, unlike you I dint removed the PC Studio but simply installed the CCCP codec and there is no more problem. Means, both PC Studio as well as WMP are working fine.
