Blue Iris is a better replacement for the Alert System

At last I can say that I have got a better replacement or alternative software for my Logitech Alert System. Instead of going Alert Commander Software its better you use Blue iris software. I am sure there might be many people who have already been implemented this alternative software in place of the commander, and for your kind information I am one amongst those people. However I am here to just share my experience with this newly replaced software. I would not say that Commander was a bad one or it was not at all satisfactory but instead I would say that Blue Iris was just simply slightly better than it and nothing else. There are certain limitations of Commander which actually makes it quite behind of the other software. The most highlighted ones are limitations in installation of cameras i.e. you can only install 6 cameras in all but in my case as I am a businessman I needed an approximate of 16 cameras. Then the other major drawback which I found was no continuous recording which is actually the main reason why people do not prefer it. Also there is no multiple views at the time of removing views. For the business users like me it is very much necessary to see or view the complete picture. Just to overcome these limitations and just acquire my requirement and needs I simply decided to switch to some other software that would work very well with the Alert Camera and somehow I ended up having Blue Iris. This is the best program that works with the Alert system and do not create any issue or problem for the user. If you really wanted to eliminate those errors or limitation or if you don’t want those drawbacks to appear on your system then simply get Blue Iris program and see the magic, its fantastic I must say.

You are very much correct my dear friend. Blue Iris is the one which works perfectly OK with the Alert Cameras. i think we both share the same thoughts and vision, even i once decided to switch to some other program in order to just overcome this commander software from the Logitech Alert system and therefore even I ended up having Blue Iris. Let me tell you that I am experimenting and testing this Blue Iris software from past 2 months with the Alert cameras working and exchanging emails each and every day with the developers. However I know one amongst them. No more further details about the developer other than that he has currently released furthermore 2 updates last month which actually gave a full fledge support for the Alert Cameras. the updates that he releases are very much similar to my requirements. For your kind information let me tell you that now currently my system supports upto 65 cameras in all and also its multi threaded putting those extra CPU cores to work.

Re: Blue Iris is a better replacement for the Alert System

My system is a mix of 16 to 20 cameras of both indoor and outdoor Alert cameras. Other thing I would like to tell you is that my Network Video Recorder computer is a 6 core Core AMD Phenom with 8GB of DDR3 ram and 2TB with doubled mirrored Hard drives with a 1GB AMD 5000 series GPU. I normally spend a huge amount for my system in order to make it look and perform at its best. There are people who prefer Core i7 4 core system that would be quicker and faster as it would do 8 threads but however its quite difficult to measure, even then I personally believe that single cores thread are much better than less dual threaded cores. And for selection of router I went on for Netgear FS726TP which had 12 PoE Ports and 12 10/100 ports. Other than this it had 2 gigabit ports. Now for your information let me revel that I have 15 total cameras and just 12 POE ports which might be confusing your. My dear amongst those 15 cameras 12 are connected to the 12 POE ports whereas the rest ones are using homeplug. Just because I needed a full duplex gigabyte port which will be connecting to my NVR PC I chose the above mentioned router.

Hey I would not agree with you if you say that Blue Iris is the only best replacement. I personally believe that other than Blue Iris there is yet software that can probably give the best competition to the commander software is the Vitamin D. this software has some decent and interesting reorganization technology in it. it is far much better than the commander and can surely be proved as one of the replacement for the Logitech Alert system. But unfortunately Vitamin D lacks certain things and also they are far behind than the Blue Iris. Limitations like no remote view, you do what so ever comes in your mind but you wont be able to have a remote viewer. Then also you won’t be able to get mobile access, then no constant recording. The worst one was no audio support. I would definitely expect this Vitamine D software to grow up and overcome all its drawbacks and limitations and get back into the race of best software for the Alert system and I would expect it to overcome all other at once.

Who said that Blue Iris is the perfect one? Might be its being one of the best replacement for the commander but its certainly not the best. There is a negativity which I found in Blue Iris that limitation is with the motion capture triggering on graphic errors. There are moments when he cameras and the videos get corrupted. However this Blue Iris successfully registers these graphic glitches as a motion and then captures them. but other than that rest everything is fine, I don’t think anyone can even complain or report about blue Iris with any of the aspects. Blue Iris allows me to records the things either in a continuous or motion capture with audio that too everything in HD. Currently I can simply look into all the cameras at the similar time period along with recorded clips either from the PC or from the phone as per your selection. The best thing is that I can also use the Alert commander software along with the mobile version to keep it as just a backup.

Re: Blue Iris is a better replacement for the Alert System

On my system I have Alert Commander installed into it and this software is somehow pulling clip from almost all my cameras. This thing is very much necessary just because I find it the only way in order to access the settings on the camera. All the cameras that are installed are by default Zoomed in. you will have to use the commander software in order to zoom out or whatever you need to do like white balance and color settings etc. I am currently tried out work around with windows 7 tried to play a trick in order to run multiple instances of alert commander. Therefore I can get almost all the installed cameras running into the same system. I think I would require some 3 instances of it just to get access to all the installed cameras.

Other than the software if we talk about the Alert Cameras, even the camera do have a limitation. One of the biggest one according to me is not being able to setup the username and the password in order to access the stream. I would simply try to put up few cameras into the remote areas and then somehow try to place them stream over the internet. this is quite simple and easy to implement but the issue is that if any user who have the idea of finding my IP and if he tries to perform a port scan they surely he might be able to access all my videos.

Re: Blue Iris is a better replacement for the Alert System

Very much happy to hear that Blue Iris does works comfortably with the Alert System. As far as I am concerned I know that there is no one present who tries to force Logitech in order to expose the live stream in the standard format that could be probably consumed by some other software. The old systems, if you consider them have never allowed it at all. I would always keep one thing in mind that Blue Iris however spoils the biggest upsells for the cameras that according to me is the best and nice upgrade from WiLife system. You need not have to make your system run all the time with Alert commander as you do with the Blue Iris. For your information, I am having a trial version of Blue Iris and it looks working quite well. Anyways it’s a great find out whoever came up with this Blue Iris idea.
