USB Pen Drive / Ext HDD doesn't work in my ACER 4730Z

I have an ACer4730Z laptop. When I plug-in my Pen drive or ext HDD to any of the 2 USB ports the system hangs but i can use a ouse plugged to the same port. The USB drivers are insatlled. I have also reloaded XP Pro 32-bit still doesn't solve the problem. Any help would be graetly appreciated...

Try to connect the hard drive on the backside of the system. It can be power issue. The hard drive is not getting enough power because of the front usb. Surely you can connect to the backside. If still the issue appears, try to plug the drive in any other system and then check. It can be because of somekind of hardware failure.
