Deficient USB power for cd/dvd in Lifebook P3110

Recently, I have bought the USB CD/DVD drive docking station to make use of the External CD/DVD driver with the help of USB. Docking station is having the USB Y connection cable so that it can provide enough power for the Optical Drive Fan and USB Hub within the docking station. But when I try to start that then notebook immediately crashed. Once this is done then there is only one way to start that again and that is to remove and reconnect the battery. Please help me to get it solved.

This can be the problem with the battery. If you want to check that then hyst connect the charger to it and then try to use that. If that works well then it will verify that the problem is with the battery as it is working well when connected directly to the charger. Once it is verified then you also know that what you will have to do. Just replace the existing battery with the new one and you will be out of the trouble.

It is possible that there is something wrong with the docking station that you are trying to use. If you want to ensure that then you can connect that with some other laptop and see if that is getting connected properly or not. If this is showing the same problem there as well then it will be ensured that the problem is with the docking station but if it works well there then the problem is with the Lifebook P3110. So once you are clear with the source of the problem then it will be easier for you get the solution.

As far as my experience, if the Lifebook P3110 is getting turned off completely when you connect the usb device then it is probable that the usb port is damaged. Examine your usb ports for misplaced black insert. Bent metal causing a metal on metal and this leads to short. So you can try to use some other available USB port on this and see if that works well or not. I wish that this will be useful for you.

As you have mentioned that you are having doubt that the problem is with the additional voltage supply to this but I don’t think that this can be the case for you. I am saying this because if this is the case only the hardware which is not getting the proper power supply will stop working. It will never crash the system. So, it is something wrong with the system and not the hardware as per my knowledge.

I have inspected all usb ports in detail. Lifebook P3110 have 3 usb ports and all of the 3 usb ports have this problem. So it is definitely not short circuting problem. I have tested three different external DVD drives and all of them cause the same system immediate power OFF. I have tested the same external DVD drives on dell notebook and they work on all Dell notebooks so the external DVD drives are all fine. If you are a member of Lifebook support team then I can send the external DVD drives I am using for testing. It is definitely a power/load problem as the Lifebook P3110 usb ports are working fine with iPhone charging and syncing.
