At the Idle it is perfect not that enough hot, but you should worry about the cabinet when it reaches to 40C, because this is also not that much high, but still I’d say why to have a chance? Rather I would suggest you that you should put a exhaust fan on the back side, which will help you to push the hot air outside and keep the CPU temperature as well as the HDD temperature cool.

Which Bay would be better to keep HDD ?

Hi, I have a cabinet on which I have mount one hard drive, it has totally 4 bays for keeping the HDD, currently my Hard Drive idles at approximate 34C and when it is loaded, It get high at 40C, which is I think too hot, isn’t it? Thus I am pretty much worried about the temperature, will it affect the computer that really, what can I do to control that temperature? Shall I move my HDD to another bay, or get some cooler for the cabinet? Need suggestion. Thanks.

see, if you change the fan also, where there is a concern able thing is the size of that fan, because if you just install a small fan then I won’t get that good performance what you’re expecting, for that you should first see the list of the fan that would be possibly fit on your cabinet and among them choose the best one, but it is very difficult to recommend without any knowledge of your cabinet, which one are you using? According to me 120 MM would be better, but still check whether it fits on your cabinet or not.

I don’t think moving or replacing the HDD to another bay would make more difference in the temperature, because it relies on too many factors of being hot, if the power supply is not able to give the proper power, then also it loads at too high, and gets hot, and make other things hot too, I would suggest you that you should buy the new PSU, I am sure that this will cut down the temperature and, and let it down to almost 10C.

If you check on the internet the best recommendation for the HDD temperature is 30C, thus always ensure that it won’t exceeds the one I mentioned. For that you can have too many solution, as you are planning to moving it, I would this would not affect the temperature that, but still as a option you can do that, otherwise you should get a cooler from the computer hardware store, and fit it to your cabinet.

There are many ways of decreasing the HDD temperature, it includes modding and adjustments to the stock heat system, to give more ventilation etc. but this was the traditional I’d say, because as far as I know there are other ways too like you do this modding by the software also such as Disabling the indexer service on Windows systems is one of them, or you can have the software called HDDScan, this would allow you to maintain the CPU temperature.

There are many features in the HDD itself, by adjusting them we can control the temperature of it, one of them is power mode, or in other words it is also known as APM (Advanced Power Mode), this feature will allow you to change the initial power saving mode of the HDD. It is energy efficient too, and other one is Acoustic Level, through which you can modify the default manner for decreasing acoustic emanations of the HDD, to make it better suit for the environment you are functioning. The settings are in the BIOS itself or you can have the external software also for doing the same.
