Check the sata controller on the Asrock ALiveNF6P-VSTA board; I guess that would be faulty. There may be other faults also that could be associated with it which would pop out after the replacement of fault Sata controller. Also try connecting it to a different hard –drive slots available so that, if one of them then other would surely detects it unless and until both of then are faulty. If the problem still persists try contacting the Service center, because there might be a problem with your hard-drive and that could pop out in future when your warranty gets over

Its should be a problem of the operating system, rather than your motherboard because you said that it connects properly on Windows and gives weird error’s on ubuntu, I think that your SATA hard –drive may not be formatted properly ( in theext3 or ext4 ) partition which is required for the proper installation of ubuntu and error in the partition may cause the hard –drive to mal –function with you access specify that part of the drive . Like in your case you have two operating systems installed on one Hard –drive.

It was a good guess ( for the having the sata controller on Asrock ALiveNF6P-VSTA board as faulty ) But , you should have read the question properly as if the SATA controller was faulty then , it should have given an error on Windows also . I am sure that it s a problem of firmware and not SATA controller and Motherboard as suggested earlier. The firmware may not properly supported by the MOBO ‘s firmware . This could be best checked with attaching an IDE hard drive.

Hii there , According to Asrock official website the , It states one need’s to install NVIDIA All in one drivers , if you need to install windows xp or windows Vista . Which can be searched directly under Asrock‘s official website under model name, there are various list of download’s available download the one that s suit’s you the best . If you have already have , the drivers and still not been able to connect , they should upgrade there NVIDA graphic driver update to 10.3.0.21 IDE driver.
