Not able to recording with SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96 in Cubase SE 3

When I choose the "SB Audigy 4 ASIO"-Driver (with 16-Bit and 48.000 kHz) then I can see in Cubase mixer the signal from the Line-In of the Soundcard and recording is possible. When I choose the "SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96"-Driver (with 24-Bit and 44.100 kHz) then I can NOT see and hear the signal in Cubase and recording is not available. What's the problem with the "SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96"-Driver and Cubase SE 3? I need the 24-Bit and 44.100 kHz resolution for my projects.

You will have to select SB Audigy 4 ASIO driver, then go to devices->VST connections, the input bus tab, and add buses(plural of bus, don’t know if it’s the correct spelling) for all connections (you probably want 3 stereo buses: Line-in 1 to 3 left and right). I suggest make a bus template since every time you make a new project; you will have to set-up the bus layout.

The buses are not the problem. I have one bus for input (Analog Mix L / Analog Mix R) and one bus for output (Vorne L / Vorne R) in both cases. If you take a look at the screenshot in my first post, then you can see that "Analog Mix L/R" (Line-In) as input and "Vorne L/R" as output available for both drivers. But only with "SB Audigy 4 ASIO" Cubase receives a signal, that's the problem.

If you're trying to record with microphone @ 24/96, it don't work because of, the 24/96 mode seems to work with line sources (AnalogMix L/R) only. This means, you need an external mic-preamp to get the mic turned to a line source. If you don't get signal with line sources either, then it's a settings issue (I don't have any Creative card installed anymore so no suggestions coming from here). Also, CT ASIO 24/96 driver is 24-bit/96 kHz only. IIRC, only X-Fi cards do support 'resolution' you're after (24/44.1) with ASIO. I think the 44.1 kHz is not very good choice with Audigy (/Live) cards because of resembling done in card internally. By the RMAA measures, Audigy gives the best quality with 96 kHz after final mixdown to wave file, you can make the SRC (96->44.1) by using Voxengo r8brain with good result (you can dither with this software too). Maybe your choice is Asio4All, which should be able for 24-bit/96 kHz too but, if you're serious with recording and like Creative products, just get some device made under E-MU brand.

Re: Not able to recording with SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96 in Cubase SE 3

Thank you for the information’s. But the problem is not solved yet. The Creative SB Audigy 4 contains two ASIO-Drivers:
    - SB Audigy 4 ASIO (only 16 Bit, only 48.000 kHz)
    - SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96 (16/24 Bit, 44.100/48.000/96.000 kHz)
When I choose the 24-Bit ASIO-Driver "SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96", then recording is impossible, Cubase receive no signal from the Line-In of the soundcard (I have tested all combinations with 16/24 Bit and 48.000 and 96.000 KHz). When I choose then 16-Bit driver "SB Audigy 4 ASIO" then recording is no problem, Cubase receive a signal. Is the 24-Bit ASIO driver a fake, buggy or what am I doing wrong? Or it is a problem of Cubase?

As normally the "recording source" setting found in "Surround Mixer" is bypassed by the ASIO driver, have you tried if that setting has effect when you're working in ASIO 24/96 mode? IIRC, Cubase lets you set the recording SR and bit-depth in Project settings panel bit-depth can be set freely but, SR needs to be supported by the HW. IIRC, CT ASIO driver is used with X-Fi cards too so maybe those additional SRs (44.1 and 48) for 24/96 driver comes from that (or Creative has improved the ASIO driver for some Audigy models). Also, have you tried if toggling monitoring switches (direct /input) has effect? Do you get ASIO 24/96 working with host software like Hermann Seib's VSTHost (this is very light ASIO/VST Host for audio/midi) or Cockos Reaper as for an example?

Ok, I have tested the Creative ASIO drivers with following ASIO combatable programs/sequences:
    - Steinberg Cubasis VST 5
    - Steinberg Cubase SE 3
    - Ableton Live Lite 4
    - Cockos REAPER 1.59
and it's everywhere the same!! Recording with ASIO 24/96 is not possible. All of the programs don't receive any signal from Line-In when the "SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96" driver is used! But I don't have any problem with the 16-Bit "SB Audigy 4 ASIO" or the 24-Bit "ASIO4ALL". With them I can use some sample rates and the recording works. What's up with the "SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96" driver?

Re: Not able to recording with SB Audigy 4 ASIO 24/96 in Cubase SE 3

I have the exact same problem, only I am working in Adobe Audition. When I go to the Audio Hardware Setup screen, the Audio Driver options that I have are:
    1. Audition Windows Sound
    2. Creative ASIO
    3. SB Audigy 4 ASIO [DF00]
    4. SB Audity 4 ASIO 24/96 [DF00]
When I select the 4th option (the 24/96 one), I show/record no sound coming into my sound card. The Default Input is set to "[01S] Analog Mix L", but I get no other choices. In the "Multitrack View", when I look at my Input Options, the Stereo is "[01S] Analog Mix L", and the Mono is "[01M] Analog Mix L" and "[02M] Analog Mix R]". But I cannot change any of these settings. There just isn't the option to. There are plenty of options if I set the driver to #3 (the non-24/96 one), and I can record with that driver no problem. What is going on? I know that the 24/96 is working because I can record audio in 24/96 in Creative's Mediasource, just not in Adobe Audition. From reading this thread, it appears that I am not the only one frustrated with this problem. Any suggestions?

MediaSource (as for an example) uses WDM (or MME or DirectSound) driver mode only (IIRC, you'll see only "Windows Default" and "Audigy [xxxx]" listed there no ASIO options available). Have you tried
    - just playback 24/96 audio using ASIO 24/96 (try w/ NativeInstruments BeatPort Player since it supports native ASIO)?
    - to set the recording source through SurroundMixer since, it's possible that it needs to be set there and not in Cubase as like it's done with the ASIO 16/48 driver?
    - Those ASIO MME and ASIO DirectSound drivers bundled with Cibase?
By the way, if you use Asio4all drivers (which is a sort of WDM (/KS) wrapper), you should be able to record @ 24/96 just as easy as you can do w/ MediaSource (though, w/ much lower latency settings). Remember that you set the recording source in SurroundMixer then.
