During IDE Operation Sound and mouse hangs

My new machine has Asus P5K-based system mother board. When I listen music on Winamp the sound gets freezes for a short interval. During this time the Cursor of the mouse also hangs up. It happens in regular interval of the time. I had installed the same sound card in the old machine and it was running well. I think this problem may occur due to reading data from my IDE,(primary Hard Disk) on which the Operating System is installed. Windows XP Installed is of old version. But I think it does not make any sense. Is the Asus P5K’S IDE bus has poor performance? Or it is due to Operating system is installed on the IDE Hard disk instead of the SATA?

As you told me you are using the Windows XP from the old System. You have new P5K System. Set UP of Plug and Play is from the old XP. IRQ’s (Interrupt Request) are allotted through the old XP. As you told me you have completely new system. Windows will not allocate resources automatically on new system. Best Solution for you is to do the Fresh Installation for your System. Even if you try to repair or reinstall on the old Operating system will not rectify your problem.

I was facing with same problem from the past few days while searching the solution on the web finally I got the solution. You have to simply open the device manger from the control panel. Have the listing of the devices in the system. Uninstall both the IDE drives from the machine. Restart the computer if the problem still persist, it may occur due to your XP is stuck in to PIO i.e. Program Input Output mode. The only solution is either use regedit or install/reinstall, after uninstalling it will automatically install.

Well I think your hard disk is running bit slower. Check whether your hard disk has enough free space. Also find how much free space is available in your hard disk if not do file defragmentation which will free memory space on your hard disk. Check and confirmed whether virtual memory is in IDE drive if is that so the transfer it to the SATA drive. Also you may suffer from the clusters problem. So run scandisk or chkdsk command on command prompt with using repair option. Check whether UltraDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) option is enabled for the IDE Drives.
