    Computer keeps losing space everyday

I have an issue with my computer and I need your help. The problem is that it is keeps on loosing space everyday. I have performed many things including emptying Recycle Bin, clearing Windows temporary folder, and clearing history, cache and temporary internet files but nothing helps anyhow. I don't understand what is consuming my hard disk space and so I am helpless to this problem. Is there anyone who have some idea about this problem and would like to help me please?

Are you running Backup Exec on your computer? And does this problem occurs only in a particular partition or all the partitions? Try to find if you have pagefile.sys on that partition. The size of the partition may even be growing because of the System Volume Information folder which is present on the drive.

I would recommend you to download TreeSize from Jam Software and make sure what is consuming more space. If you really want to see some immediate effect you can even disable System Restore feature. This will release a lot of system space. If you didn't notice much difference then you can at any time enable this feature once again. But make sure you have not set much space for it.

This happens when you use WMI and you have configured it to log all events on your Windows XP based computer for quick analysis and troubleshooting of problems. In such situation the file size of both the Framework.log and the Framework.lo_ files may be greater than what you configured for them. To resolve this problem, install the latest service pack for Windows XP. You can even set an error log for WMI with Windows Registry:
    • * The destination folder for all log files is set by this registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM\LoggingDirectory
    • * The maximum file size is set by the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM\Log File Max Size

The following registry subkey determines how the Windows Driver Model (WDM) provider will log errors:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM\Logging

The logging entry uses the following values:
    • 0: Turns off logging.
    • 1: Logs errors only.
    • 2: Verbose logging.

I think your computer is infected with some virus or malware. This can happen due to malware activity which is growing on your computer. The increase in the file size may be a false positive or the actual increase in the number of infection present in the system. I would recommend you to go for a virus scan and remove any of the infection found. Make sure you have the up to date virus definition to remove the malware from your computer. I prefer to run MalwareBytes Antimalware because it is well-known in this removal task.

Did you recently installed anything onto your computer? Some add-ons or toolbar or some other application. May be that is causing you the problem. Uninstall it and see if that helps. Apart from that what all other applications are you running on your computer. If you don't require them then uninstall it and see if that helps. You can even uninstall all the additional things that you must have installed since you have first installed Windows to make sure if that doesn't creating you the problem. If nothing helps then I would recommend you to format your system. This is the only last option that is left to you.
