External hard drive problem

Hi,

I have a Hp Pavilion tx1000 Notebook PC running on Windows Vista Home Premium edtition

I bought a 500GB Seagate Free Agent external hard drive and it worked fine for a while, days later and now windows explorer crashes every time hard drive is connected and need to disconnect and restart.

Any help much appreciated!

As you have got the new Hard drive then it might be having the warranty for same so you can replace it with the new one. But before replacing i will advise you to connect the Hard drive to any other system and after that see whether this is getting the same issue or not. If it is then hard drive faulty and you need to replace the same as soon as possible. This can also be possible that the cable is gone bad and that is why loosing connection every time. So change the cable also and see whether it is working with the new cable or not. Also let me know about the same. I think this is the issue with the External hard drive only.
