    Keyboard problems with extension cable

    Hi all,

I recently bought a new aluminum apple wired keyboard because I wanted to use that by means of my new custom built windows desktop. I know that it will not be fully compatible with that but when I connected that with windows 7 laptop then it was working fine. It was getting connected with and without extension cord. I also tried this with the desktop then also it was working fine without extension cable and when I tried to connect that with extension cable then it failed to work. I need to use the extension cable to reach my desk.

Is there anyone who know that how can I solve this issue with the keyboard. I have already tried many things but that was helpless and I was not able to solve the problem. Any helpful suggestion from anybody will be really appreciative. Thank you.

There is possibility that the keyboard driver that is installed in your computer get corrupted and therefore it is creating problem for the keyboard to work. To fix this problem with the drivuer you can do the following.
    • First of all go My Computer > Hardware and open the Device manager.
    • From there you have to uninstall the keyboard.
    • If you are using the Windows XP then you have to go to Start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Hardware.
    • From there uninstall the keyboard driver and restart the computer.
    • When your computer gets restarted then it will automatically detect the keyboard and install the appropriate driver again on your computer.
    • After that you have to check for the keyboard and I think that this time it will start working.
    • If again you are getting the same problem then you have to update the keyboard driver on your computer from manufacturer’s website.

There may be some problem with the keyboard circuit that is there on your motherboard circuit. To check that you should connect any other keyboard that is in working condition. See whether it works or not. If that is working then it will give you the clear idea that problem is with the keyboard. If other keyboard is also not working then this may be the keyboard circuit problem and you have to change the circuit for the keyboard on motherboard and this will let the issue out of your computer. I hope that this will help you solve the problem that you are facing. Don't try to do that on yourself, you should call any expert for that because it is very risky thing to do.

This may be because of the extension cable that you are using. That many be corrupted and therefore it is not allowing the proper connection to the keyboard and the computer. You can go for a new extension cable and see whether it solves the problem or not? You will get that cable in any of the computer hardware shop and this will also not cost much. I am not saying that is going to solve the issue for sure but if it can solve the issue then why should you go for the things like motherboard and all, which are very critical and if you do any mistake with that then also it may create some major problems.

This problem may be created due to fault in the USB cord that you are using to connect the Keyboard to the computer via extension cable. You must have multiple USB ports on your machine. You should switch to any other port and see whether it is working there or not? There is possibility that the port you are using may have been disabled by mistake and that is why it is not recognizing the keyboard. Just go to the computer manager and check for the USB ports. They should not be disabled. If that is the case then right click on that port and select enable . This will make that port enable again. After that connect the keyboard via that port and see whether it works or not. This will definitely going to make the keyboard functional if the issue is related to the USB port.

As you told that you bought it new and I am sure that you must have the warranty card for that and it should be in the warranty period. If that is the case then why are you trying anything else by yourself? Just take this matter to the dealer from where you bought it ask them for the issue. They will solve the problem with the keyboard or if it has some major issues then they will replace that with new one.
