    Need PnP Driver for CDROM

I guess this is the right section for this query. I am a Windows XP user. The system is fine except my CDrom. My Hp CDROM is just unable to play any cd or dvd. I tried to fix it by updating Windows and all HP updates. But still the problem persists. In Device Manager, i found error message stating "The driver may be corrupted or missing. Code 39".

Do you guys have any idea about this ? If yes, please help me to fix it. Also let me know where can i get plug and play drivers for CDROM or DVD. Thanks for all your helps.

With error 'The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)', many times uninstalling the device can fix the problem. So, first of all go to Device Manager, locate the device, right click on it and select remove or Uninstall... Once done reboot the system. On startup system will re-install it with the needed drivers. Hope it works. Do reply the result.

The drivers installed during the "Installing Devices" from the GUI-mode Setup have to be at certain locations. At this point, Setup installs the devices (using the ID Plug and Play) which have been enumerated by Windows Plug and Play devices. Setup looks for a predefined path on the drive, looking in the .inf files the best match for the ID Plug and Play device. The path, or% SystemRoot% \ Inf directory is defined in the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ windows \ CurrentVersion \ DevicePath: REG_EXPAND_SZ:% SystemRoot% \ Inf
Setup uses this path to locate .inf files for device installation. After installation, this path is also used in case detection and installing new hardware. If you modify this key during the installation using the Sysprep.inf or unattended installation answer file, the value is saved and also used after installation.

I was also facing the same problem and one of my friend helped me. he has given me a patch to run and guess what, i fixed the problem. Hope it can help you too. Download Restore Missing CD Drive patch and unzip it on your hard drive. Once done, just right click on cdgone.reg and from the context menu select Merge. It will ask you to accept registry merge. Click yes and reboot the system. Thats it !!

You may need to add new hardware devices to existing Windows computers that require OEM-supplied drivers. Although this process requires that you install the new device, you can opt for the OEM drivers to be distributed in a controlled manner or to be centrally located on the same server.
