Superdrive won't recognize/play DVDs

There is issue regarding the superdrive of the Apple PowerBook G4. This is more than 5 year old now. The superdrive of the Apple PowerBook G4 is not recognizing or playing DVDs at all. But it is properly detecting and playing the CDs inserted in it. So what can be the possible reason for the same with the Apple PowerBook G4. Provide some suggestion to fix this superdrive issue properly.

According to me first of all you should check out the DVD you are trying to play by inserting in the superdrive of the Apple PowerBook G4. It is possible that it is blank or damaged because of which the superdrive is not able to read it. Try to play the DVD disc with the some other system for checking out its usability. If not working then there is problem with the DVD disc and not with the superdrive.

It may be possible that superdrive of the Apple PowerBook G4 is working properly and there is the problem with the software installed in the Apple PowerBook G4 for the playback of the DVD video files on the system. So i will recommend you to reinstall the DVD playback software on your Apple PowerBook G4. This will fix this DVD issue.

I think there is a issue with the lens of the superdrive in your Apple PowerBook G4 because of which it is not able to read any of the DVD disc and can properly read the CDs. I was also having the same kind of the issue, for solving this problem i cleaned the drive lens using the lens cleaning disc. You can get it easily on the computer shop. After that the issue got resolved with my system.

If the superdrive of your Apple PowerBook G4 is not reading the DVD discs after cleaning the lens of the drive using the lens cleaning disc then i think the lens is totally damaged and cannot be repaired. So you will have to change the drive of your Apple PowerBook G4. This is the only think that you can do for resolving this problem. So contact the Apple service center for this as soon as possible.
