    Mac Mini Overscan Issue

I am having Mac Mini CoreDuo 1.66 on which i have installed Mac OSX 10.6.2 and i have connected Viewsonic 42" LCD 1080p TV N4285P. I have seen that when i put overscan OFF then there are black bars left on an each side of TV. And if i put it ON then some part of the screen goes out. Is there any way by which i can get the perfect resolution on my TV?

You have not given an information about the connections which you have done between your mac mini and TV in order to get the perfect screen resolution on your TV. I think you should use DVI to HDMI adapter on the mac mini and check that it must be working great with the overscan adjustments. If it does not works then there could be some other problem.

Make sure that you have installed the latest drivers for the version of mac os which you are using on your mac mini. Actually if you do not have latest drivers on your mac os then you will not be having an enough options to set the resolutions according to your choices. I think you should check about the driver installed on your mac os x.

I was having the same issue on my mac mini when i have connected the Sony TV on my mac mini. Actually the problem was about the frequency which was set at the 60 Hz. Even i have installed Mac OS X 10.6.2 on this mini so i was confused to get the perfect resolution on TV. When i tried to change the frequency from 60Hz to 30 Hz then i saw that it was giving me a perfect resolution. You may try it on your mac mini as well.

There would be a WIDE button given on the remote control of your Viewsonic TV. Just keep on pressing that button which widens your tv screen and widen it up to the maximum limit and then use overscan as well on you mac mini. I think this should resolve your problem of screen resolution as this could be the easiest way to control the resolution of your TV.

I would like to ask you that is there a MBP, If yes then connect the Viewsonic up to the MBP and see that is it working or not. make note of the MBP's settings as well as TV's settings. Specially in the MBP format that is being sent and then check the box given for an overscan. Now hook it up with the mac mini and make sure that nothing has been changed in the TV's settings.

I had the same issue, here is the correct settings for mac mini with Panasonic Viera 1080p's, Mac mini set to 1920/1080 and overscan on, Viera set to HD Size 2 (access through advanced picture settings).
