Mac mini and Sony tv resolution issue

I have bought a brand new Mac Mini and i am trying to hook it up with 51" Sony Wega HDTV. I have took a mini out and used DVI adaptor which came with the box. And i have connected mini to TV by using HDMI cable and there is an issue with the resolution an screen is going out of the TV. I have selected 1080i resolution.

I think there is some wrong settings has been selected on your mac mini in order to get the better resolution on your Sony Wega TV. I would like to make you checking that have you selected for an Overscan on your mac mini as it could be the core of problem. You may try using the different size settings your TV such as size 1 or size 2 etc if there are any such settings are provided.

It might be the video card issue which you have on your Mac Mini as if it would not be supporting for such high resolutions on your TV. I think you should search it on google by providing your Sony TV's model number as well. Actually model numbers matters more as it might be having some different port itself which ca help to get the best resolution on your TV.

I think this should not be an issue from the TV side as this this series of TV has enough settings for getting best resolutions. I think there might be something related to the video drivers which are installed on your mac mini. Once you have installed a latest drivers then i think you would be having better options to set the resolution for your TV.

I think you should use some of the softwares on your mac mini which helps you to set the resolution of your TV. I have connected my TV with my desktop computer and i have used a SwitchresX on my computer which provides me different kind of settings by which i can set the resolution of my TV to whatever i want. There is an another software called as DisplayConfigX which you may use to solve your resolution problem.

I think there is a media center front end application called as Plex which helps you to set the resolutions of your TV which in fact displays the video from your computer system. But i have not used this facility personally so i can not assure that it would be working in your case.
