    LTO1 drive I/O error

Hello I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about a used LTO1 drive I’ve recently obtained. It keeps on giving me errors whenever I try to write files to the tape. The tape is new and the drive did work and back up my files one time and then restored them without any problems but then when I erased the tape and then tried to do a new back up it gave me errors.

The drive does write about 68MB of data but then it hits an error and stops and it will give a catalogue of whatever data was written, so I was wondering if it’s a tape problem or a drive problem. I would put another LTO tape in to test but I only have one at the moment. The program I’ve been using is Genie Backup, I’ve also tried using a number of other tape backup programs such as turbo tape, uranium, and the standard backup program native in windows up, the computer is a Pentium 4 running up 32bit and a SCSI adapter 29160. The drive is a Seagate viper 200; any help would be much appreciated.

I think it's an Tape issue because of which you are getting an error message whenever you are trying to write on it, i think you should check it out with another tape and i am sure this will definitely solve your problem.

ok i got the drive to work for a little while i think its a scsi problem because i used another tape and it still didnt pass the test on xtalk then i replaced the scsi cable with another and ran the test twice more with both tapes and drive passed both time. Then i had to go to work and when i came back the tape drive wouldnt work and failed to backup and failed xtalk both of these cables are external but im using them for internal so i'll try with an internal scsi ribbon cable once it arrives.
