    What does GD-ROM stands for

What does a GD-ROM and what does it stands for. I want to get a dream cast for me which I am getting in second had with some collections of game. But the thing which is creating doubt in my mind about the GD-ROM. The other thing I want to now is how to include audio disc in the same GD-ROM. It is a kind of disc and for what it is used.

GD-ROM stands for Gigabyte Disc Read Only Memory. Sega determined to use a proprietary compressed disc system, for two important reasons. One was to fit additional and supplementary on the disc; standard CD-ROMs have a maximum capability of between 650 to 690 Megabytes, while Sega's GD-ROM's have a maximum capability of up to 1.2 Gigabyte of data.

The second motivation was to depress the casual pirate, as the GD-ROMs are not copyable in a customary CD or DVD writer. One part of a GD-ROM can be made readable on a customary CD-ROM, and Sega and 3rd party developers often use this segments of the GD-ROM to contain some pictures for computer backdrops or other items correlated to the game, as an extra.

It is also probable to compress audio CD tracks that play in a customary CD player, and most GD's have at least one audio track caution the user not to play the GD-ROM in a customary CD Audio player. To fit additional data on the GD-ROM disc, the data is written in a somewhat different format to regular CDs. This might mean that the GD disc is essentially more sensitive to scratches and defects than regular CDs too.

Sega suggested that after you have completed playing a game you open the lid with the Dream cast still on. This forces the disc to a stop, as the hardware brake is functional mechanically. At the similar time, the Dream cast resets back to the startup efficacy screen so you can edit the VMS or other settings, or easily reinstate the game disc and load another game.

It might be a terrible suggestion to turn the system or computer off and then open the lid, as no brake will be functional and the GD disc might rotate out of the machine and get smashed or take your ear off or something. In perform the diminutive clips tend to hold the disc in place anyway, but you are talking worst-case scenarios here.
