Canon IP1600 does not work on Windows 7

Hello there, I have a desktop computer which had Windows XP installed on it. The computer is connected to the Canon IP1600 printer. The printer used to work properly in Windows XP but when I upgraded the operating system on the computer to Windows 7, the printer stopped working. The printer does not get detected in Windows 7. I want to know why Canon IP1600 does not work on Windows 7. Is it possible that the printer is not compatible with Windows 7? The operating system which I am using is Windows 7 64bit. Please help.

There is no such compatibility issue between the hardware device and the operating system. As the printer is not getting detected, it is possible that the printer itself is faulty. To check if the printer is working condition, try connecting the printer to some other computer and install all the components required. Once the printer is connected to other computer and installed, check if you are able to print using the printer, then printer itself is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I think the operating system which you are using is not installed properly on the computer. Sometimes it happens that while the installation of the operating system all the required files are not copied to the hard drive of the computer. If such situation happens then when the need of the missing file arises, the operating system starts giving error. I think the files which are associated to detection of the devices is missing on the system due to which the printer is not getting detected by the system. Once the operating system is installed again, the problem will be solved.

The earlier releases of Windows 7 operating system did not support all the manufacturers of the device. Hence if the device of such a manufacturer is connected to the computer, it will not detect the device. This incompatibility issue was later solved in form of patches and windows update. I suppose that you have not updated the operating system after installation and hence you are facing the problem. Update the operating system installed on the computer and then see if the printer gets detected by the computer or not.

Have you checked the physical connection between the computer and the printer? If the connection between the computer and the printer is not proper, the communication between the computer and the printer does not occur properly. Hence check the connection between the computer and the printer again. Remove the connecting cord between the computer and the printer and then reconnect again to the computer properly. If you are using USB cord to connect, then try changing the Port on which the printer is connected.

Drivers are very important for the device to work properly. All the devices which are connected to the computer come with the associated drivers. Drivers act as mediator between the operating system and the device. If the proper drivers are not installed on the computer, then the device does not respond to it. Download the appropriate drivers for the model of the printer you are using and which is supported by the operating system. Once the proper drivers are installed on the computer, you will not face the same proper.
