    Difference between Pentium processors

    Hi,
I am learning computer hardware. Here I came under some terms. I need some details about difference between the Intel Processors like Pentium 4, Pentium 3 and Celeron. And also now there are two types of hard drive used in different computer. Like IDE and SATA. What is the main difference between them in performance motive. The same question lies for RAM and overclocking. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Difference between Pentium processors

Core 2 Duo is the new processor from Intel. It comes in the range of Pentium processors. The difference is at the internal architecture of the chip. The Core 2 Duo has two cores with shared cache and the Pentium 4 is equipped with one heart. The fundamental difference lies therefore in the number of heart. We can now make true multi-threading. This means that two processes can run simultaneously on a different core.

    Re: Difference between Pentium processors

The difference between processor can be calculated as per the performances are felt especially on applications that manage multi-core, as multimedia applications often do. The Core 2 Duo are engraved in 65nm which is not the case for the Pentium 4 (except for those with a heart Cedar Mill).
The Core 2 Duo processors are optimized for 64 bit but include a compatibility mode 32-bit. The bus width of motherboards equipped with Intel Core Duo is 64bit. If the OS and applications used does not support this new technology, it is unnecessary to have. This can be helpful by cons in the case of a purchase of new equipment to avoid delays in the power of software updates later.

    Re: Difference between Pentium processors

A Celeron is basically a processor model identical to normal before the P3 and the P4 now, but with reduced performance in particular due to the smaller size of the cache. The Pentium 4 is more powerful than the Celeron, and therefore more expensive. A fully functional Celeron offers a level of performance less than a P4, but it remains an acceptable processor for the desktop for example. If you want to play, do video editing or use software that require high computing power, it is advisable to have a Pentium 4.

    Re: Difference between Pentium processors

The DDRAM is faster than SDRAM. This difference is due to a technology different from one another. The operating frequency of DDRAM are higher than SDRAM. These 2 technologies are incompatible. You can not have both of SDRAM and DDRAM bars on the same computer. And for overclocking, it refers to operate an electronic component at a frequency greater than that provided by the manufacturer in order to increase its operating speed and thus thereby, performance. These operations usually take place in the BIOS of your machine. It's going to change the different frequencies to operate the component faster. Some software can also make overclocking.

    Re: Difference between Pentium processors

The different hard types of hard drive connection either SATA or IDE differs in various ways. The difference is mainly in four points.. First is the Rate Data (SATA is faster), second is connector (SATA is one of the smallest), third is Number of drives per cable (1 for SATA and 2 PATA) and the last one is the Maximum length of cable (1m to 45cm for SATA and PATA). The SATA standard allows a very high theoretical throughput of up to 150Mb / s. The SATA-II even happens to 300MB / s theoretical. Manufacturers have already announced an enhancement to 600MB / s.
