Dell Studio 1555 Notebook have a 1394a port instead of 1394b

I am Confused ! Actually i have bought a new Dell Studio 1555 notebook computer. Specification states that it has 1394 port. I thought it would be a 1394 b because it has been used since last 7 years. But i was wrong as they have used 1394 a. Can anybody solve my confusion ?

1394a port is commonly used port.

Do not be worrying because 1394 a port is also a good port. In fact it is the most commonly used port in the computer in past years. 1394 a and 1394 b are both the good ports for their functionality but most preferably 1394 a has been used in the notebooks. It is not going to make much difference if you have 1394 a port if you were expecting the 1394 b one.

    Most Compatible port : 1394 a

I think Dell has started focusing on the " Most Compatible " rather then the " High performance ". Because like they have done with you, same case has done with my laptop also. but i have not faced any kind of problem regarding this changes. Even i have heard that amongst 1394 a and 1394 b, mostly 1394 a have been used in the market, so it can be the reason for this kind of changes by DELL.

    IEEE 1394 Serial Bus.

IEEE 1394 is generally used for high-speed communications and real-time data transfer. IEEE 1394 is a serial bus interface and very much frequently used for the personal computers and laptops. It can be also used for digital audio and digital video. It is also called as firewire or i.link.

FireWire is faster than USB 2.0.

FireWire can determine which device can best control a data transfer by negotiating bus conflicts as it uses "Peer-to-Peer" architecture. USB 2.0 used to handle all the arbitration functions and dictates the data flow to and from the attached peripherals which results in slow performance of the processor. I would just say that FireWire is faster than USB 2.0.

port 1394 are used for digital technology.

Actually this both 1394 a and 1394 b are used to provide the support for digital sound and digital videos. They are almost the same with respect to their prices. It may happen that 1394 b would be cheaper in the comparison with that of 1394 a. But They both are too good at their functionality. Digital Sound or Digital video will be including all the latest gadgets such as cameras, sound keyboards, sound systems, Amplifiers.
