Intel unveils successor features of USB, USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. The USB 3 should be called SuperSpeed USB so there is no difference. Called SuperSpeed USB, it offers theoretical transfer speeds of 5 Gbits per second, or 625 megabytes per second. As a reminder, USB offers rates of 1.5 Mbps (0.18 Mbps), USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 Full Speed 12 Mbps (1.5 Mbps), and finally the 'High Speed USB 2.0 reaches 480 Mbps (60 MBps).

I have observed the performance obtained with hard drives running a USB 2.0 connection, 3.0 or eSATA.where USB 3.0 performance quite close to eSATA, while delivering the power required to supply components. Power eSATA, which is growing recently.

How to recognize SuperSpeed USB cable is actually Simple, less than imaginative changes in stroke, the plastic parts of the connectors are blue to indicate the new standard. The specification does not talk about maximum length of cabling but based on the characteristics is estimated a yield optimal length up to 3 meters.

Re: SuperSpeed USB or USB 3.0

The new SuperSpeed USB cables are more complex and larger diameter. To operate in SuperSpeed in addition to require devices and chipsets, cables using two pairs of dedicated cables, which are included in the connector contacts positioned at precise locations. In addition to these two couples are a normal couple for power and land, plus two additional cables for the flow of data-SuperSpeed (ie USB 1.1/2.0), which combine to produce the connector exactly where they were those of the previous generation . This makes the new Type A cables are compatible with any USB device. An exception is Type B connector that you see in the picture, more cumbersome in height and depth. Mandatory presence of a shield around the cable while the specifics of the previous standards absent.
