    HDMI to SCART

Currently i'm having a fairly old tv that has no HDMI socket nor Component Video. Now, my problem is that, basically I would like to connect my analogue sky digitalbox to my fairly old tv. Is it possible to buy out a lead that can connects the hdmi from the DVD to the scart socket on the TV in order to increase PQ? Is there a HDMI to scart converter available in the market? Does any body knows about it? Kindly help me out to resolve the above issue. Any kind of help on the above issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

Scart is analogue, and can be at a range of resolutions and refresh rates. You managed to buy a SCART to HDMI cable? HDMI is digital only, so any converter would have to figure out what resolution and refresh rate the input signal is on, do an A2D convention on it, possibly rescale to the closest valid HDMI resolution, and then output again. Ignore the HDMI connection, and get something that will convert composite or s-video to VGA. They can be had for even less than the DVD Recorder.

    Re: HDMI to SCART

HD DVD players will be compatable with DVD's for sure. If you had HMDI output direct from the player to the display, then in theory this would give you a better image, but a Scart-HDMI-TV connection setup alone wouldn't improve anything. HDMI physical connections require precision shielded twisted pair cable. If you could get a scart-HDMI adaptor, all you'd get out of the HDMI end would be the same (or probably poorer) quality images that were fed in from the Scart. A cable comprises four shielded twisted pairs one for the source clock signal and three for digital data along with five individual wires for power, sub-communication functions, plus a ground reference for those functions. Dual link HDMI connections require the aforementioned plus three more STPs for additional TMDS data channels.

    Re: HDMI to SCART

You can't use HDMI with a scart socket because HDMI carries ONLY a digital signal and scart carries ONLY an analogue signal. HDMI still requires the same encoding, speed, and data management protocol as DVI. There seems to be some scart to hdmi converters out there. There is such a thing as a Component to scart cable which carry a Y/Cb/Cr signal but the scart socket would have to accept that signal.Scart to HDMI Signal Converter Converts the SCART signal to HDMI signal, SCART signal interface is an Analog Video Signal Standard Interface of UK, it include Analog RGB, VIDEO and AUDIO (L/R) stereo signal.
