Integrated drive electronics

Hello , i am Studying computer Engg and want to know the Basic of it , first Can you tell me what is integrated drive electronics , it is same as Ide, or We Say Ide Drive, if then it must have been replaced by sata ,am i correct ,please add your view about these , thanks in advance

The IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is the interface connection for mass storage as it is used in micro-computer. This connection is based on ATA protocols and its extension ATAPI Protocol (ATA Packet Interface with extension). These protocols can connect readers and writers CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. The IDE allows converters to link Components to another interface such as USB, Ethernet etc.

Integrated drive electronics is an Interface: This is the communication bus between the disk and the motherboard. The main interfaces are IDE / ATA (P-ATA), Serial ATA, SCSI and SAS. But there are also eSATA, Firewire 400 / 800 and USB 2.0 for external drives.

The IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics, is the most widespread standard commercial interface connection for mass storage (HDD, CDROM, DVD) in micro-computer. This connection uses the standard ATA | and ATAPI.

The IDE connection pulls some of the ATA/ATAPI protocols . ATAPI (ATA Packet Interface with extension) is in fact an extension of ATA (AT Attachment). This is the protocol used by IDE hard disks while ATAPI is rather used by CD-ROM /DVD-ROM readers and writers and by some special type diskettes eg. ZIP
