PIO is in fact a method of exchange between a hard disk / CD / DVD and the machine, pumping 99% of CPU resources, thus immobilizing the machine and creating crashes.

To Change to Dma Mode , open Control Panel, and then follow these steps to configure the DMA / PIO settings for a controller:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
    2. Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
    3. Right-click the controller that you want to configure DMA / PIO settings for, and then click Properties.
    4. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
    5. In the Transfer Mode box, click either PIO Only or DMA if available.

Re: What is Pio Mode, Should i Change it

PIO is the oldest method of transferring memory on IDE / ATA interface. The PIO technique involves using the CPU and support hardware to control the transfer of memory between the system itself and the hard drive. The speed of the PIO mode is calledslow . It begins in mode 0 and increases with each mode having a faster cycle rate of nanoseconds. Then, of course, higher modes are more fastt due to the fact that memory can be transferred much faster because of increased cycle rates and maximum transfer rate. Support for PIO mode is built directly into the BIOS of system , which means that drivers are not necessary for them. The simple design of Pio was the most commonly used method of transferring memory for many years.
