    Asus A8N-SLI chipset fan dying

    Buddies,

I think my nForce chip fan is dying on my Asus A8N-SLI .I like to replace it...If I would remove the casing the chip set should get necessary air from the front fan of the case Can I let the motherboard work without any fan on the chipset?.I realized there is a clear path from the front fan to the chip set.I have replaced fans before but nothing so 'fancy' as this one. Should I get the same shape/design fan or could I replaced it with a standard black one?

    any thoughts ?

Basically the chip set fan is meant to be really dodgy on asus sli board. I have read that if you forward them a email saying it has failed they will response out a new one without asking another question. if not you may want to try one of the vantec chipset/gpu coolers

I have the Premium version which lacks a fan for the chip set, just a heat sink.most of replaced the chipset fan/heatsink combo on motherboards with a better heatsink with out fan.But confirm it is not interfering with a graphics card. You could temporarily rig up a fan to blow on or across it if you are worried about overheating. I wouldn't game on it until your fan is replaced.

I'm on my third chipset fan, since it is too hard to replace,Fans I have used are bit noisy, and are built to work with higher speeds. It is simpler to slap a cheap fan on a thin piece of metal than to build a heat sink, with or without a fan. Are you running SLI? Which way you adopts to cool your CPU and RAM? You said you had a clear path from your front case fan over the chipset -what are your case temps like? If you have enough airflow and low case temps then I think a passive heat sink will be fine. If you're running SLI with warm cards better dream a fan.
