Ive recently downgraded a Compaq Presario SR2170NX to XP, as there were some serious issues with Vista. The DVD Drive does not play audio/video CDs/DVDs but I was able to install XP using the same drive so I know it's not the problem. Also, I tried installing another optical drive that I know is working and still the same result. I've installed K-lite codecs as well as VLC player and still no luck. Sometimes the system would just freeze when it's a video and for audio CDs each track plays for a few seconds before skipping to the next one and I've noticed a squeaky sound cutting in and out when audio is being played. The system did freeze when the system had Vista installed. I've also tried to update the firmware and although it says successful am not so sure it was. Any ideas?
