Vaio cd/dvd undetected

I am having Sony Vaio laptop at my home. Sooner I came to notice that my laptop is not able to detect any DVD and/or CD. This problem started when I installed a new hard drive on my laptop. I can see my DVD drive from Device Manager without any conflicts, but I don't know why is it not detecting any cd/dvd'd then. Can you explain me why cd/dvd's are undetected on Vaio laptop?

Seems to be drivers issue. Reinstall the cd/dvd drive's driver and see if this helps. Meanwhile look at some similar threads:

This problem is caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. To fix the problem, you have to use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted Registry entries.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey
4. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
7. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
10. Exit Registry Editor.
11. Restart the computer.

Make sure if by chance IDE is disabled in your BIOS. Go to the motherboard bios and set it to autodetect all the IDE drives. Also check if all the cables are properly connected. If unsure then try to remove each of them and reconnect. Also make sure if the drive is getting enough power and is connected to your hard drive. Check the jumpers settings and set it to either "Slave" or "Cable Select".
