Dell Dimension 2400 usb drives not working

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 laptop on which i had installed Windows Xp as my operating system. Recently i had bought a new usb drive, now the problem is that when i try to plug the usb drive it doesn't work on my Dell Dimension 2400 laptop. Can any body tell me that why doesn't usb drives work on my Dell Dimension 2400 laptop? Does any body knows about it? Kindly provide me the correct solution for the above issue.

This is usually caused by a drive letter conflict. If the motherboard BIOS supports booting from a USB drive, you will have the option to select it in the BIOS setup.

You will need the cd if you don't have it on your hard drive. The best way to resolve it is to remove all USB devices, then uninstall the USB controllers and hubs from Device Manager, then reboot and allow your controllers/hubs to reinstall.

Try to insert your usb drive properly on your laptop. It might be that you haven't inserted your usb drive properly. It might be also possible that your usb drive may be of faulty one, due to which your laptop might fail to recognize it. For that you need to take back your usb drive back to your dealer, from where you purchase the usb drive for your laptop.
