Is this power supply powerful enough to handle HD4870x2 ?

Replacing my card Sapphire hd4870 512 against a hd4870x2 of the same make, I wonder about my power supply ability, in fact my current power supply (500W) seems inadequate. However I am currently in negotiations to acquire a power supply OCZ PowerStream 600W of 3 years age soon. Do you think this will keep the power supply route for the whole;

500W clear that you have now is really fair and it is not a top so risky.

600W it will go if you not have Quad

Changed for only 100W of more, a little unnecessary, is the 700/750W

Yes it is but I have a good offer and I can resell my 500W on the other hand, so for the moment ...

Anyway thank you for your answer that reassures me about the capabilities of a 600W, even if, as you said, I originally preferred to go directly to 700W.

A 4870x2 with a C2D consumes over 580/600W. A power supply is successful in 40 to 80% of its load. Therefore 600w/80% = 750W

If you have a 650/700W, it works without problem, but not too much overclocked and heat it over so its performance will drop.
