Power Supply Unit Gave It's Final Verdict

    hi there

I am having a strange problem regarding my power supply unit. The case fans powered directly by the special case fans power connectors on my Jeantech stoem 700w psu suddenly stopped working. They still have some power as the fan leds are seemed to be on but the fans are not able to rotate. I also tried swapping the power connector with the standard 4 pin connector on which most of the other devices are provided powers and the fan is then the work's fine.

Am I having a problem with my PSU or is it just because of the case fan cables?

Please help me with this problem

The fan is connected to the board cuz the PSU controls the fan speed according to the temperature in the PSU. If the PSU is not under load it doesn't get as hot as under load. Lower speed= less noise. If it gets hot the fan speed should pickup.

You can hook it to the molex connector if you want.

I think 83bj60 is absolutely right. I've run across this issue before. If blowing it out with compressed air doesn't work, you could either try for a warranty replacement of the whole PSU unit, or attempt to replace the fan yourself. I've done the later several times. If you do choose to replace the fan, I'd recommend going for a ball bearing type, rather then a sleeve bearing type. Ball bearing design has a longer service life, and lasts longer under higher temps. They tend to be somewhat noisier, however.

On your issue, it sounds like you have a fan bearing/bushing that is failing.
The fan will eventually seize and you computer will auto-shutdown to save itself from overheating and killing the CPU.
That is, hopefully, it would shutdown in time.

If you read the manual and see if it says anything in there about the rear psu fan not operating and secondly ring the compter store about this issue stating that: its a newly built computer and then the problem you are facing.

Chances are you only have to exchange the power supply, not the whole case. But, of course, you'll have to check to be sure.

Sometimes there is what is called a fan speed monitor connector on your motherboard connecting to the PSU. If you have one, make sure it's connected properly. If not that, sometimes fans just die prematurely (cheap construction), you should be fine as most PSU's are designed to operate without them. Plus your other fan is still working so that is good.
