Unable to read dvd in windows xp

i am using sony dvdrw with winxpsp2 .today i tried to read dvd but dvd rom is not reading it then i try to read cd but that is also not working. both time it shows as blank disk .ca nay body please help me ;what happend to my dvd rw?

hi ,
first put your boot able windows operating system cd in to drive and restart it .
check whether it is booting from rom or it denied to boot from cd rom .

ya its booting from windows but problem is same in windows .....??

then check for virus in your computer ,some times this can happen due to virus ...if this not work try to update driverof rom .
what i suggest last and best install new fresh windows file..!
