    1TB SSD released by pureSilicon!

"Once you reach the capacity of 1TB record for a Solid State Drive, top of range of the series produced by Nitro pureSilicon"

Do not stop to talk about themselves the Solid State Drive, or the discs made using memory chips instead of the traditional dishes rotating adopted in most common hard disk. In recent times we have witnessed a real boom of SSD, punctuated by a variety of capacities, data rates and prices, by almost all companies working in the field of storage.

Only limit the SSD than the traditional discs? The capacity that although average growth in newer models, can not compete with that of conventional discs. There is an exception. We're talking about a new disc produced by pureSilicon series Nitro, which has reached record capacity of 1TB well. The form factor is the 2.5-inch drives, while the interface is known SerialATA II 300MB / s. The series also includes Nitro cuts 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, while on the performance we are at the highest levels.

With regard to the transfer rate peaks pureSilicon says 300MB per second, with average 240MB per second read and write 215MB, which uses the cell type SLC. Uses recommended by pureSilicon are those of high professional level, not for portable consumer. There is talk of servers, networking, data center, supercomputing and military equipment. The consumption of new units should go Nitro by 0.1 W in idle to 4.8 W in full operation, while the availability is scheduled for the third quarter 2009. Prices? Not declared, but prohibitive.

I am just curious to know what it costs now a product of its kind ...

for a 32GB MLC it takes more than 60 euros, The ratio is merciless, water must still pass several under bridges because the technology offs.

I understand that their main objective is the laptop of each band ... but may be they sees something new SSD 3.5 "

well, as we have all the technologies X

The first Philips CD recorder cost 1200000 and was 1x (yes, one million two hundred thousand pounds )

    Now you tiran behind them

ok with the capacities we have, I believe 1TB too (pto from my perspective, we will only the OS and applications on the SSD) now need to see the reliability and transfer rate

    Pure Silicon Announces 1TB SSD

At CES, pureSilicon demonstrated its 1TB 2.5-inch SSD, dubbed 1TB Nitro Series. It’s a combination of magnificent density, supreme performance and low power consumption. It claims to be the most compact SSD per GB with 15.40GB per cubic centimeter in a 2.5-inch form-factor. Four pureSilicon 1TB 2.5-inch SSDs occupy the same space as a standard 3.5-inch HDD.

The 1TB Nitro SSD is the most compact SSD per gigabyte: 15.40GB per cubic centimeter in a 2.5-inch form-factor -- at least three times greater than any other SSD on the market.

Pure silicon put 64 double stacked 64Gb chips (for a total of 128 flash memory chips) as well as 512MB of buffer memory and a high performance 32 channel SATA2 controller into the package.
As well as high-capacity, the 1TB Nitro offers low power demands, 300MB/s SATA-II connectivity and 240MB/s sustained read rates.

Pure Silicon has benchmarked these drives at speeds approaching the maximum bus speed of SATA II (300 MB/s).

Re: 1TB SSD released by pureSilicon!

This is a kinda exciting but I have to stop any excitement on the basis of having read that pureSilicon are going to supply these amazing SDD units to the Military, Medical and Industrial Application areas only, although admittedly I would have thought that only SLC's types would have been applicable to these areas (maybe the MTTF on these MLC's surpass previous MLC types and rival that of SLC's)..

This is a shame for I could see no better an upgrade requirement than to install one of these into my laptop (MacBook Pro 17" 'unibody' 2.9GHz CoreDuo, 8GB RAM) for enhanced gained performance for Hi-Def video editing. Unless of course pureSilicon change their mind on their intended/proposed areas of supply limitations.

Re: 1TB SSD released by pureSilicon!

Ok, I must admit that with such a 'huge' 1TB storage spec in a mere 'laptop compatible' SATA II 2.5" 100 x 69.9 x 9.5mm case, I guess I naturally assumed (in my previous post) that this is an MLC type SSD knowing that manufacturers at present like Toshiba have only just been able to hit the 512GB capacity due to the nature of MLC type SSD's that allow for a larger capacity to size ratio.. however with pureSilicon's 1TB SSD unit quoting a Reliability 'MTTF' of 2.0 million hours (Apprx 228 years! unless I'm mistaken), this is more characteristic of an SLC type which I thought was currently not possible with the 2.5" 100 x 69.9 x 9.5mm form factor dimensions. If they've pulled this off, then hats off to them and I can only dream of having one of these in time (time to ask the bank for a big loan then).

Although I could not find any reference on the internet as to wether they're SLC or MLC, the first posting above by 'Aldous' mentions the SLC spec, so with that and the 2.0 million MTTF rating stated I can only assume that amazingly this is an SLC type? .. Please advise if incorrect/different
