my dvd drive stopped working

my new hp laptop is about 3mnths old now and i cannot see my dvd drive or use it. it keeps telling me that it is either missing or corrupted. i checked for it or tried to check for it in the bios and cant find it. when i press the plus button in device manager it says its at location o and everything is 0. i tried all the options in help. its really frustrating. im using vista home premium. amd processor. the name of the dvd drive is slimtype DVD A DS8A1H ATA device.

Hi, There might be some dust on the laser eye. Get CD lense cleaner kit from any redio shack. Sometimes it works.

You can try an optical drive cleaner but most probably the CD laser is dead. With DVD/RW drives so cheap, just replace it. If you want to be sure,install it in another computer for testing or even better, boot with a...
