external Hard Disk broken

I was working on an important file when the external hard disk, a Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200, has fallen.
Since then, every time I connected to the computer via USB, felt the classic noise when you connect a device outside, but in My Computer was not recognized and especially the disk is initiated, emitting strange as if processes not able to leave. In fact going into Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager, including USB, in addition to writing Device USB mass storage appeared an exclamation point on yellow background. Trying to uninstall and reinstall the device appears the inscription: Unable to start the device. (Code 10).
So I took the disc from a technician who, after trying to attack it directly to PC and have tried the data with some recovery software, has surrendered, saying it was a mechanical problem and therefore it was necessary to send a specialist in recovering data from damaged disks. Now, because the cost of this operation is prohibitive, but the data I need absolutely, I will be grateful to all those among you give me directions of any kind for the recovery of lost memory!

I suppose the link which you provided is to recover data from the Internal hard drive will it also work to recover data from external hard drive.
