The title that beginners start their journey Playdead shows that the puzzle by flag and a formidable art direction can make a seemingly simple mechanics becomes a captivating game. Xbox Live reaches Limbo praised by critics and has won the prize for technical excellence awards from the last Game Developers and has attracted attention since its announcement of those interested in video games as art. But what is limbo? First of all jewelry. A title that catches the eye with only viewing, but also playable with ineffable virtues that make it advisable to purchase beyond their undisputed artistic values.
In Limbo will be a little boy who embarks on a gigantic odyssey in search of his lost sister. Our protagonist is just a dark silhouette in the shape of a child, with two bright spots for eyes clear on its face. A design that connects clearly escapades with the philosophy of the game, a title that moves us forward in its history with minimalism by flag: no need for voices, narration or music. In fact, the adventure begins with our little hero waking from a bad dream in the middle of a forest, and without delay began to walk to the right of the screen guided purely by instinct. No history or why we should walk, only a desire for survival that quickly share with our virtual alter ego. So Limbo has no argument but neither need it, the gameplay and especially the aesthetic power are more powerful narrative than many blockbusters with complicated scripts can offer.
Three simple buttons to operate our character, a beautiful monochromatic environment, without soundtrack to accompany our steps, the night is our only ally in Limbo. Perhaps based on the beautiful created levels in LittleBigPlanet many users who saw the same purposes, but also adding some puzzles that far from being complicated, are not simple, in perspective. These puzzles tend to relate about how to move around the stage with the help of certain objects in our environment. For example we were able to solve situations with our character building makeshift platforms to jump around obstacles or using valves to open and close water supply. Logically, there is much more imaginative than those mentioned, but not among our intentions not to mention creating the spoilers. Many of these challenges have to do with the advanced physical displays the game, some with ingenious combinations of objects, but they are mostly very clever though, as we say, there are only two buttons to solve different situations.
In Limbo death is extremely common regardless of our skill, and to deal with that issue, the game features a series of cleverly placed checkpoints to not frustrate the player and you discover what has been done with it and how you can get around it in the next attempt. The constant death may sound harsh punishment, but it is not at all, is that the player discovers with surprise what caused his death and sets the goal for the next opportunity to overcome whatever obstacle. What does not Limbo is a system of levels or chapters to use, apart from which we can retrieve from the main menu, which means that the entire game is presented as a whole that we can go from start to finish without annoying interludes interruptions or load times. The idea of adventure is a constant nightmare and tirelessly is very much on the minds of its leaders and the result here is superb.
And the game itself is set to a series of imposing narrative and musical color and respected to the letter, something like the movie Dogma rules of Lars von Trier won a few years ago and all his followers to the letter reproduced . Playdead intended was to be minimal as possible without giving up a series of clear artistic interests who wanted to capture in its aesthetics, and the result is simply amazing, skipping for a moment all these parameters.
