How to Install and Play Dragon Age 2 on Ubuntu

This tutorial has been prepared for you to help you play this game in the Linux platform. I know there are many games which are not developed for the Linux platform yet and hence I thought of making this tutorial especially for you all. This tutorial has been tested thoroughly in the Linux platform and so far the game is running smoothly and it has not given any issue. Hence I would advise you to have a look at this guide and I am quite sure you will like it.

Before starting with the guide I would like to give you some information on the systems requirements to ensure smooth running of the game. Here are the same:

• A recent ubuntu version which is Ubuntu 10.10 or Ubuntu 11.04.
• Do not forget to have a PlayOnLinux in your system and ensure that you have the latest version.
• Finally the Dragon Age 2 games DVD or the digital download version.

Installation of PlayOnLinux:

If you are ready with all these things, than you first need to install PlayOnLinux to successfully install and play Dragon Age 2 on your system. Lets Start with the installation and configuration of PlayOnLinux:

• Download the latest version of the PlayOnLinux from the internet and save the file on your desktop.
  
  
• Double click and install the PlayOnLinux in your system.
  
  
• Once you have successfully installed the PlayOnLinux in your system, then you can run it by going to the applications, then games and selecting the PlayOnLinux menu entry.
  
  
  
  
  
• At the First launch it will ask you to install few things since you are opening it for the first time. You will need to install mesa-utils and Microsoft fonts. In case you are unable to get the mesa-utils then it will display you an error.
  
  
• For the successful installation of the mesa-utils file you will have to start with the ALT+F2 key combination and then check the ‘Run in Terminal’ option. So I nthe code you will have to copy and paste the following code which is given here sudo apt-get install mesa-utils.

• After having done that you will get a terminal window. In that you will have to enter the necessary details like the password and then move ahead. Note that the terminal windows will close automatically once the mesa-utils package gets successfully installed.
  
  
• The PlayOnLinux will also ask you to download some Microsoft fonts as I have said above in that there is no complex procedure involved. You will have to just click on the forward button when the installation dialog will appear and that’s it. it will get installed on its own

Installation and configuration of Dragon Age 2:

• To start with the process, insert the DVD, Click on the Install button on PlayOnLinux.
  
  
  
• Search if the Dragon Age 2 is showing up in the list. If it gets appeared, select it and then hit the apply button.
  
  
  
  
  
• Having done that you will get to see an installation wizard. In this you will have to just click on the forward button to continue.
  
  
• Then it will download and install the latest version of the wine. So once the downloading and the installation process is over you will have to click on the forward button to move ahead.
  
  
• Now select the version of the Dragon Age 2 that you have purchased.
  
  
• Select the proper version of the DVD that you have and then wait for the wine to be updated properly in your system. Remember wine is very necessary to be installed in your system. As you all know it is necessary when we are running any windows based files on the Linux.
  
  
• So once done with that you will get a Direct X warning. Read it carefully and accordingly click the forward button.
  
  
• Then you will get an message saying to insert the dvd in to the dvd rom of your system. Since you have already installed the dvd in to the dvd unit. Click on the forward button to skip the step.
  
  
• After that the installer page will appear and you would be prompted to select the appropriate language for your game. Select the appropriate language that you want while playing the game and then click on ok button.
  
  
• Then after that an dragon age 2 installer page will appear, click on next.
  
  
• Then you will be given a software license agreement. Accept the license and move forward it by clicking on next
• You will be asked to enter the serial number and accordingly add the serial number and select the next button.
  
  
  
  
  
• Then the final step, just select the install button and then your installation process will get started.
  
  
• Once your installation process gets completed, just select the next button
  
  
• Then a new page will appear in which two options of play dragon age 2 and view dragon age 2 read me will appear. Do not select any of them and click on finish button.
  
  
• Then you will be back in the PlayOnLinux page from the installation page. Just select continue and move forward.
  
  
• On hitting the continue button the PlayOnLinux will start the downloading and the installation process of the DirectX
  
  
• Now the installation page of the Direct X will appear. Here also you will have to just accept the agreement and then move forward by clicking on next button.
  
  
• Again hit the next button and you will have to wait until the DirectX gets successfully installed in your system.
  
  
• So now once the DirectX gets successfully installed in your system , you will have t hit the finish button to close the installation wizard.
  
  
• After that you will be prompted to enter the memory of the graphics card that you have in your system. Enter the required information.
  
  
  
  
  
• Then select the forward button and then you will be asked as if where you want the shortcuts of the particular game to be placed I. the system. Two options will be given one is the ‘on your desktop’ and the other one is the ‘in your menu’ option. Select the appropriate option and hit the forward button.
  
  
• Now you will be asked to choose the location to create shortcuts for Dragon Age 2 Configuration. Do select the proper location and then select the forward button.
  
  
• Now having done that you will have to again select the forward button, so that it starts the Dragon Age 2 configurator.
  
  
• Having done that now close the configuration window of the dragon age 2.
  
  
• Just hit the forward button twice and close the PlayOnLinux installer.

Close the PlayOnLinux page and click on the shortcut that you have created for the game and start playing the game. Thats it. Dragon Age 2 your Linux / Ubuntu System. I hope you will like this step by step guide.
