How to Use VistaBootPro to manage Dual boot

    Using VistaBootPro

By installing XP after Vista, dual-boot may prove to be acting up at regular intervals. VistaBootPro puts things in order, sohere we will discuss a little tutorial on it.

How to Reconfigure a dual-boot with VistaBootPro
Above all, ensure that the three files boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect are in the root system. If in doubt, copy the files in each root (XP and Vista). But generally, they must be at least in C: \. (For more details on a specific configuration, ask in the forum).

Warning, these files do not appear if the option "show system files" that are unchecked in the display options.

    • Download VistaBootPro
    • Then install and run it
    • A warning screen appears: "vistabootpro has detected that you have not performed a backup ..." (vistabootpro noted that did not make a backup .... so "Click OK")

The "BCD Registry Backup / Restore Center opens. Give a name and choose a location to save the file to boot Vista by clicking on Browse at the end of the line "BCD Backup Path".
A strange page may appear, do not take into account (click "no"):

    • Click the System Bootloader (system boot)

    • Under "Choose a system to install bootloader" (choose to install the bootloader), select "Windows Vista Bootloader"
    • In the "System Bootloader Install options" (Options for installing the system boot), select "All Drives (all drives) so that all researched VistaBoot OS gets installed.
    • Check "Force Bootloader Install" (Force install the bootloader).
    • Before continuing, it is preferable (but not required) to disable most devices, I / O such as USB devices (including different peripherals if they are connected with USB)
    • Click on "Install Bootloader" (install the bootloader).
    • Restart the PC.
    • If everything is back to normal (the choice of OS is proposed to start), start on either XP or Vista, then restart VistaBootPro and click on Manage OS Entries (managing start-OS). The two OS, Windows XP and Windows Vista, appear in the window.

    • Select one to change the following options:

"Set as Default" (this OS will be pre-selected by default) and / or "Rename OS Entry" (it will be renamed in the boot that will appear at startup. It is more convenient to read "my Windows XP" "Windows Lagacy "or" old versions of Windows.
    • Optionally, change the "current boot time out" (within the display window) to lengthen or shorten this period display (After that, the OS selected "default" will be launched without intervention).
    • Click on "Apply Updates" (Apply changes).
    • Restart the PC: a new screen will appear, allowing you to choose the OS to boot.

Re: How to Use VistaBootPro to manage Dual boot

    Note 1
If the "System Bootloader" is changed and after reboot, XP still can not be launched, there is probably a problem with the boot.ini (due to displacement of disc drive or partition, for example).

In general, the boot.ini contains this (readable in notepad or text editor):
    [boot loader]
    timeout = 30
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (1) partition (1) \ WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \ WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" / noexecute = optin / fastdetect

    Note 2
One of my friend has refined this method. The key to its success is: change bootloader settings with VistaBootPro in both OS.

I started VistaBoot XP by choosing "Vista Bootloader" and "system partition" and "Force install bootloader" and "install bootloader".
    - At the restart of the PC is Vista, that is set in motion without offering option of boot ....
    - I started VistaBoot under "VISTA" (it is therefore the installer on 2 systems)
    - Under the "Manage OS entries" I did not had option for XP but Vista ...
    - I clicked "Add new OS entry" - Added "Windows XP" but "BOOT DRIVE C: \" instead of "H: \" as seen in the workplace, because XP is "H: \ "after loading all the devices. (card reader, cd burner etc.).
    - In the tab "System Bootloader", I clicked "Vista Bootloader" and "system partition" and "force install bootloader" and "install bootloader"
    - I restarted the PC and I had a choice between XP and Vista and it worked!NB: If you leave XP in "ADVANCED SLEEP MODE" to relight the PC that launches directly XP without other choices.
