creating a ebook cover ?

I have to design an ebook cover for my first ebook. Do you have any suggestions? I don't have a license for Photoshop, so I can't use any tutorials.

You could use fireworks, or ms paint if you need something real simple. Photoshop is the best though.

Thanks Secrecy for your suggestion. Not editing the picture is the problem, but making it look like a real book
