How to keep accurate time on PC?

Hello friends,
Recently I have started getting an error about the clock that is displayed on the taskbar of the system. It doesn't show an actual timing. When i set it, the clock starts perfectly. It shows the time correct thereafter till the Windows shuts down. When I restart the system again the clock shows improper time. I am not having much idea of these things. So thought that you guys can tell me the proper solution for this issue. Please explain me how to keep accurate time on PC?

PCs have internal real time clocks designed to keep the system time. The internal clocks based on quartz oscillators relatively low cost, which are notoriously inaccurate. In many cases the PC system time can drift by several minutes each day. It describes how to use time references on the Internet, radio and GPS clocks and dedicated NTP server systems. The Internet uses the network time protocol to disseminate accurate information to customers time to time to network. NTP has been an important part of the Internet for over 25 years. The protocol is born by the need to provide synchronization of time-critical processes across the Internet.

Most modern operating systems including Windows XP, 2003 and Linux have the ability to synchronize time with an NTP server. There are a multitude of NTP servers on the Internet with public access that can be used to synchronize your PC. Windows XP pre-installed software SNTP client that can synchronize the time with an NTP server. This is achieved by simply entering the domain name of an Internet server NTP time properties tab. The host computer, and periodically communicate with the NTP server and synchronize the system time reference specified.

Linux and UNIX NTP software distribution available on the website NTP ntp.org. The application is an NTP daemon constantly monitors specified NTP servers. The application reads a list of NTP servers from a configuration file, ntp.conf, and periodically synchronizes time. The Internet has solved this problem by introducing the NTP (Network Time Protocol). NTP can be used to distribute accurate time from a time server for high precision real-time network for customers. Most operating systems today have the ability to synchronize time with time servers of NTP server. In general, just an IP address or domain name servers on time p servers NTP stratum 1 or stratum 2. Operating Systems Linux and Unix can download the full NTP implementation from NTP website "ntp.org. NTP software available for free under the GNU General Public License.

Problems arise when the computer does not have access to the Internet or it is not on the network. It must then access the local network to have a precise time reference. Fortunately, many time references are available free to the public. Many references to time by the national radio are transmitted to the air. These radio transmissions are generally referred to as "call sign". The disadvantage of the solutions of the time on national radio and the frequency of their transmission range is limited. Their transmissions are generally limited to regional and national boundaries. The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides a solution to this problem. The GPS system works from multiple satellites that rotate continuously around the earth. Each satellite has an atomic clock precision that is synchronized to board the satellite. GPS provides an absolute accuracy of information in the world. Simply receive transmissions from a GPS receiver and antenna to have a low cost.

There are many commercially available radio and reference GPS clock synchronization for PC. Radio and GPS clocks achieve accurate time references from national radio or GPS timing system. The devices have serial or USB interfaces and provide an exact timetable for PC. Driver software periodically synchronizes the system time of the host computer for the reference time received. Often, the reference clock drivers are available for this interface application software NTP to provide your own dedicated server NTP. Once radio receivers often have the advantage of having the opportunity to obtain a good signal indoors, close to the host computer. However, the signal can be received locally from the transmitter. GPS has the advantage of providing a comprehensive solution to the time frequency, but located an external antenna is needed, which may be impractical.

NTP servers are servers dedicated time as a delay of an external source, such as radio or GPS, and provide a network with a reference of time. NTP servers are typically rack mountable devices and an external antenna and an Ethernet connection. The devices require a delay of a radio or GPS timing reference and to maintain a precise time internally. The precise time is then distributed to customers of network time on an IP network. Dedicated NTP servers often minimize the implementation and configuration effort required to obtain an NTP server installation running.
