What are the shortcut keys for Special Character

I saw many post here regarding the special characters On windows and i found it interesting. I am using Vista and i like to insert special characters all in my email, any word documents, etc.. But it takes long time to go to character map and than select from there. Is there any keyboard shortcuts for inserting such special character ? If yes what are they ? Thanks in advance.

Many windows user using special characters are not aware of their keyboard shortcuts. If you are also a frequent user of these characters i would like to make you know that you can find their shortcut keys there itself on the character map. Once you Opened the Character Window, select any character and look at the right-most bottom for the shortcut key associated with the special character. It will be in combination of Alt + numeric numbers, like ALT+0289. However not all characters have shortcut key but you can get enough from there itself. While applying this characters on word or anywhere, press and hold Alt key and press the numbers assigned, and you will get that character immediately typed. Enjoy !!

You can also manually assign a shortcut key to a special character. To know how, see this:-

• On the Insert menu, click Symbol.
  
  
• Click the tab with the symbol or character you want.
  
  
  
• Note If you don't see the symbol you want, in the drop-down menus, click a different font or subset.
  
  
• Click the symbol or character you want.
  
  
• Click Shortcut Key.
  
  
• In the Press new shortcut key box, press the key combination you want to use. For example, press ALT+ the desired key.
  
  
• Look at Currently assigned to to see if the shortcut key combination is already assigned to a command or other item.
  
  
  
• Reassigning a key combination means that you can no longer use the combination for its original purpose. For example, pressing CTRL+B changes selected text to bold. If you reassign CTRL+B to a new command or other item, you will not be able to bold text by pressing CTRL+B unless you restore the shortcut key assignments to their original settings.
  
  
• Click Assign.
