No start on Windows 7 desktop

My family bought a new computer with the new Windows 7 OS yesterday. But the problem i have is theres no start menu i can see anywhere. Why is that so and how can i take it back ?

Well,not a big problem. Try this to get start menu back on your desktop:-

1. Open regedit via Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc >Applications Tab > ‘New Task’ at the bottom, type regedit.exe, press Enter.

2. Navigate to registry key :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3. In the right pane, make sure there is a REG_SZ named Shell and it has a value of "explorer.exe"

4. If it’s not there, create it by clicking Edit > New > String Value then right-click it and key in explorer.exe.

5. Reboot the system.

Thats it... Hope you will see the start menu...

Hey .. thanks for the help.. it worked for me.. I got my start button back... Thank you.

One of my friend using Vista also had the same problem and called some technician to make it correct, and was charged for that. Do you have any idea about the same for Vista so that i can help my friend if he get the same problem again..?
