Reducing the weight of an image

I have a 8.3 megapixel camera and every picture I make in the best format is weighed average 2.9 megabytes, too heavy to upload to the network and storing them on CD's. I would like to recommend the program to reduce weight without losing image quality (by avoiding the loss of pixels).

Currently I do is open the photo in Paint and save as a JPEG and down too much weight is reduced but the quality and sharpness affects. How can I fix this?

Fireworks or Photoshop or inDesign maybe can assist you with these programs.

As for Photoshop and Fireworks are not working very well to say, but if you can guide me with tutorials as to what I'm asking.

And Picassa proved to that well. Thanks for your help and I appreciate more alternatives if possible.

The problem with the weight of the images.

An image is a collection of dots (pixels celebrities) where each pixel stores information about the position and color.

When we talk about images, there are two parameters that normally must be borne in mind.

The first is the size in pixels (picture element) those famous numbers that come out when we change the resolution of the computer screen or looking for the best camera on a cell phone or webcam.

As you know anyone who has used the bitmap format, the images occupy too much space and is where the second parameter, which is the compression. To make a long story short, occupies less space, higher compression and image quality is the worst of it too.

Point 3 megs if you think on average a lot, consider buying a DVD to store your photos. Secondly, you can decrease the size of the photos you take by half in the camera settings.

You can not put quality where it is not a time that does not reduce a photo to retrieve information, forget Hollywood and their fantastic programs that make a blurry image and gridded a wonder worthy of the Louvre.

Save your original and copies according to what you want done, you can download the size you need to use any of the programs you have recommended other for.

Want to upload photos to the forum? Reduce the image to 640 X 480 X 600 or maximum 800

Want to show your friends a good resolution image of the Internet? Picasa will make the suggestion of 1600 X 1200, good enough, even for printing.

Again, retain your original works with copies.

I think it is best that you get your camera resolution. Otherwise what is the point of getting a 8mp cam?

In my case the Sony W150 allows you to edit photos, including trimming and lower resolution.
