CDROM and DVD not recognized

OS - Windows XP, SP2

I have an external IOMagic 52x24x52 (USB) CDRW and an internal Artec
DHM-1648R DVD (IDE) player that had been installed and were working. Now
Windows tells me that it cannot load the device driver (code 39). At the
time they were installed, no mfg drivers were loaded, they both used drivers
included with XP. This problem occured prior to SP2 and I was hoping SP2
would fix the problem but it did not.

Both drives have been uninstalled and reinstalled many times but it's always
the same, "unable to load the device". Is there anything I can do short of
rebuilding my pc?

I can't use the repair facility with XP since I have no working CD drive.

There's a regedit in this article that may or may not assist:

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code
39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

Re: CDROM and DVD not recognized

Taurarian,

That took care of it. Thank you so much. You have no idea how many hours
I've spent on this. If you are ever in the Tampa, Florida area, I'll buy you
dinner!

Re: CDROM and DVD not recognized

I guess Florida would be a little too far to travel for dinner.

If you're anywhere near Alice Springs, Tell my brother I said hello. He
left the states in the late 80's, married a woman from AS and never looked
back. He loves it there. I spent several weeks in Melbourne and Perth (in
the 70's and R&R) but, never made it to AS. From what I understand, he has
made quite a name for himself there. Photography (has been published around
the world), gliding and parachuting. His name is Les Gilliland.

Thanks again for your help!! It was greatly appreciated.
