Xvid is not a video format. It is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard. Xvid encoded files can be written to a CD or DVD and played in a DivX compatible DVD player. However, Xvid can optionally encode video with advanced features that most DivX Certified set-top players do not support.

Download and install VLC media player. Update it with all the available codecs and try to play xvid files. To open your video file with VLC, run the program after you install it, and click Media. Select Open File and an File Browser.

You just need to install the Xvid codec to play those files. It is a modification of DivX codec. Get the Xvid codec here. You can also use any converter if your files are in different format. Convert ir to media player compatible format and give a try.
