It is a problem in Windows vista. I need this to test one application software. It was very easy in Windows XP or Windows 2k. But in Vista 64 I am unable to do it even after going through the Windows help.

To setup your Hotmail account as default:
- Launch your Internet Explorer browser.
- Click on "Tools" of your browser on the upper left part of your browser.
- Choose “Internet Options” from the drop down list.
- Select the "Programs" tab.
- Under “E-mail:” click on the drop down list and choose the first “Windows Live Mail”
- Click “Ok” to save the changes.
Windows Mail replaced Outlook Express and does NOT support Hotmail any longer. Thus, you'll need to download/install/use Windows Live Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird for that to work.

You can continue to access your other accounts via web-mail or Windows Mail, but to be able to access your Hotmail account in Vista (other than via web-mail), you'll need to install Windows Live Mail *Desktop* (WLMD). WLMD won't be a default Mail Client choice until you install it.
There is no "integration" of web based mail within the mail client (Windows Mail) as there was in previous operating systems. This was removed for some real and/or perceived "security" problems. So you will have to use Internet Explorer to access your web based Hotmail.
